Temporary position for a chemist/biotechnologist/biologist/biomedical engineer
Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi (FDG) is a 60 years old, not-for-profit leading institution in healthcare and rehabilitation, holding a chain of 29 healthcare centres and research hospitals in Italy and employing more than 6.000 people.
Since 30 years, a biomedical technology department is present in FDG, named Polo Tecnologico, based in Milano, in which R&D and Technology Transfer activities are historically done in the fields of bioengineering applied to neuromotor and cardiovascular systems, industrial medicine, assistive tools for disabled, ambient assisted living, biosignal analysis, integration of innovative ICT companion solutions for patients, caregivers and medical doctors.
In the last twelve years, an additional research field was addressed in Polo Tecnologico, by creating a new very interdisciplinary Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Clinical Biophotonics (LABION, www.labion.eu), actually aimed at developing innovative and highly translational nano- and photonic-enabled tools for therapy monitoring, nanoparticles characterization and regenerative rehabilitation studies.
Starting from 1st January 2020, LABION will coordinate a three-years project granted by Fondazione Regionale per la Ricerca Biomedica to design and test innovative engineered nanovectors to target drugs against two brain disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and Glioblastoma. As part of this project, we are looking for a junior scientist interested in the application of advanced optical techniques (Raman spectroscopy and Surface Plasmon Resonance Imaging) and nanomaterials in medicine. In particular, the research activity of the candidate will be aimed to perform the quality control of the drug-loaded nanovectors, evaluating both process reproducibility and nanostructure efficacy in order to clarify the binding kinetic and the drug release profile.
Besides, he/she will be involved in all the LABION projects and activity, including the realization and optimization of nanostructure-based biosensors and the characterization of extracellular vesicles by means of nanobiophotonics techniques.
The successful candidate should be a Master Degree graduate, PhD student, Post-Doc highly motivated by an interdisciplinary environment working with biologists, chemists, medical doctors, bioengineers. He/she should have a good autonomy in planning and performing his/her job with both theoretical and experimental approach aimed at integrating his procedures and results with the rest of the group.
Interested candidates can contact the group by sending an email with their CV to labion@dongnocchi.it
