Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF)

is a particular process of separation, different from other filtration systems.

TFF_1Indeed, the fluid is passed parallel to the filter rather than being pushed through a membrane perpendicularly, which can clog the filter medium.

The size of the pores in the filter membrane determines what passes through and what’s held back. The solution that passes through the membrane is referred to as the permeate while the portion of the feed stream that does not permeate the membrane is called the retentate and it contains the particles we are most interested in.

TFF is an easy to use, fast and efficient device that at the same time concentrates and diafilters a sample, avoiding product loss and saving time.

It can be applied to different field and, In particular, in nanomedicine it can be used for the buffer exchange and purification of liposomial formulations or for the isolation and concentration of extracellular vesicles from different suspensions.

 

 

 

Automatic Fraction Collector (AFC)

allows fast, precise, automated isolation of nanovesicles by size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) using IZON columns.

AFC_2SEC separates molecules based on their size by filtration through a gel characterized by pores of a specific size. Separation occurs when molecules of different sizes are included or excluded from the pores within the matrix.

Small molecules diffuse into the pores and their flow through the column is retarded according to their size, while large molecules do not enter the pores and are eluted in the column’s void volume. Consequently, molecules are eluted in order of decreasing dimensions.

 

AFC_1 AFC utilizes a rotational carousel for holding the collection tubes and during the collection the carousel advances to the next fraction when the selected fraction weight is reached. It is a compact and highly cost effective instrument ideal for small scale and high throughput parallel processing of samples.
