NANOSIGHT NS300

The Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Clinical Biophotonics (LABION) introduces you another of the five instruments purchase thanks to a grant funded by the Italian Ministry of Health: NanoSigh300 (Malvern Panalytical).

 NS300

NanoSight300 is a tool that provides an easy-to-use, reproducible platform for nanoparticles characterization.

In fact, this instrument uses the technology of Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA) to determine the size and concentration of nanoparticles suspended in a liquid. This is possible, because this technology utilizes the properties of both light scattering and Brownian motion (incessant and disordered motion of very small particles suspended in water or gas).

A laser beam passes through the sample chamber and the particles suspended are hit by the laser and scatter the light in such a way that they can be easily viewed thanks to a microscope on which a camera is mounted.

The latter is capable of capturing a video file of the particles moving under the Brownian motion. In addition, the instrument features also a software with an intuitive interface that uses the Stoke-Einstein equation to calculate the hydronynamic diameters of the particles; the measurement is controlled via standard procedures.

For NEVERMIND project, LABION is using NanoSight for the characterization of liposomes. This step is fundamental as it allows to ascertain the good state of the synthesized liposomes and their concentration.
