LABION is excited to communicate that Dr. Cristiano Carlomagno has been granted by Ministero della Salute to work on a three-year project about Raman analysis of saliva as diagnostic platform for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)!
The project entitled “Towards a powerful tool for the stratification of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients: salivary biomarkers detection by the combination of Raman Spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF spectrometry” was submitted as a Starting Grant to the Ricerca Finalizzata call for project in 2018.
Cristiano will be supported by the whole Labion team to carry out the project in collaboration with the Pulmonary Intensive Rehabilitation Unit coordinated by Dr. Palo Banfi at Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi (IRCCS S. Maria Nascente) in Milan.
The project has already brought to promising preliminary data that will be published soon and the methodology proposed represents an innovative approach to monitor the progression of ALS in a non-invasive manner.
The validation of the Raman platform for the stratification of ALS patients will help not only to speed up the diagnostic procedure, but also to personalize and finely tune the therapeutic approach thus prospectively ameliorating patients’ prognosis and quality of life.
